Do heat pumps really help to reduce emissions?

As a heat pump captures heat that is already present in the environment, the system itself does not burn any fuel and therefore emits no carbon dioxide. Therefore, emissions come only from the generation of electricity itself and as the share of renewable sources of electricity is growing, emissions from the electricity are also falling.

Heat pumps are also substantially more efficient than gas boilers for example, and consuming less energy on heating will lead to fewer emissions, which is better for the environment.
